Extreme Ocean Adventure – 4 Days
Ready for a cage diving experience with the Great White Shark? Like to see the Great Australian Bight for yourself? And what about swimming with the Baird Bay Sea Lions and the Blue Rockets – the Port Lincoln tuna?
Day 1 – Predators of Neptune Island (Cage Shark Diving)
If you’re up to the most extreme and exhilarating ocean interaction with the world’s most feared predator of the sea, then this is the day you’ve been waiting for!
We leave the Marina Hotel in Pt. Lincoln at 7am and head for the home of the Great Whites, the Neptune Islands, accompanied by pods of dolphins aboard the very comfortable 65 foot Calypso Star.
Once at the Islands, the action begins as sharks up to 18 ft start to arrive. Each person will experience 45 minutes’ cage viewing, face to face, with the amazing Great Whites through crystal clear waters. Cameras are a must, as the action from the fly bridge and the deck is absolutely fantastic!
We arrive back in Lincoln around 7pm where we dine in and stay for the evening.
Day 2 – Coffin Bay Blue Rockets (Swim with Bluefin Tuna)
Breakfast is included as you wait to board the Calypso Lady for the short steam to a farmed tuna cage in the glistening waters of Boston Bay – one of the world’s largest protected harbours (3 times the size of Sydney Harbour).
Here, in a world’s first and exclusive to Port Lincoln, you will enjoy the opportunity to swim with, feed and photograph these Blue Rockets, the mighty Blue Fin Tuna!
We then head to one of the most stunning and tranquil estuaries in Australia, home to some of the nation’s finest oysters, Coffin Bay. We board the Coffin Bay Explorer for a 3 hour tour, which gives you the history of Coffins and a magnificent insight into the town’s best known acquisition, the oyster industry.
You will tour the beautiful estuaries around the bay and see some amazing scenic views of the township and the Coffin Bay Peninsula. Pods of dolphins almost invariably gather around the bow of the Explorer catamaran and guide us to a farmed commercial oyster lease, where you have the opportunity to taste the delicious product fresh from the racks held in the Little Douglas waterways.
We then motor around Yangi Bay, Black Springs and other sheltered beaches and camping grounds whilst listening to outstanding commentary with the cameras ready for an abundance of bird life, dolphins and the New Zealand fur seal.
Finally, nestle into your waterfront accommodation and relax whilst a seafood feast is prepared for you and the sun sets in the west.
Day 3 – Great Australian Bight (Walking, Fishing, Sandboarding, Bodysurfing)
Wake up with the pelicans at your doorstep and enjoy a freshly cooked breakfast before taking a short drive north to explore the hidden secrets of the coastline.
The journey takes in the area’s productive farm lands and an ever-changing landscape. On arrival at our coastal destination, you can embark on a host of activities at your leisure. Sandboard on some towering dunes, snorkel amongst an abundance of marine life in safe and clear rock pools, beachcomb the white, footprint-free sandy beaches, fish from the beach for the hungry and fighting salmon, explore the rock pools or hit the waves, body surfing in the pristine clear waters of the Great Southern Ocean.
We finish the day by visiting the Cummings Monument, with spectacular uninterrupted views across the rugged cliff tops of the Great Australian Bight, and a glimpse of the family of osprey that nests on a craggy pinnacle adjacent to the lookout.
Put your feet up on the return to Coffin Bay, where your hosts prepare another smorgasbord!
Day 4 – Baird Bay Sea Lions (Swim with Sea Lions)
It’s an early start today, but worth it because you are in for a world class treat with Bairds Bay Ocean Eco Experiences.
Today’s headline act is swimming with the sea lions off Jones Island, a very short steam journey away aboard the 12m Investigator.
Experiencing sea lions in their natural environment is unforgettable – these fast, agile and playful creatures thrive on interaction with humans. Along with diving with the Great White Sharks and swimming with farmed tuna, this charming experience is rated as one of the “must do” activities in Australia.
Following the encounter, the Investigator pulls out into deeper waters, where you have the chance to swim with the resident dolphins. Powerful and lightening-fast, these animals often come so close to you that you can hear their high-pitched chatter.
On the return to the beach of Baird Bay, we have lunch before we departing for Pt Lincoln, but we have a few stops to make along the way.
A short drive away is the Murphy’s Haystacks. These rocks are ancient wind-worn granite inselbergs, purported to be over 1500 million years old. The unique outcrop of pink granite boulders is a delight for photographers.
The Talia caves are another fascinating attraction. Nature’s elements of sea and wind have etched patterns through time on their limestone roofs, whilst the surf washes the rocks edging the caves producing another spectacular scene of color and the wonderful force of the Southern Ocean.
We then take you back to the Pt Lincoln airport for your departure.
